In 2005, the Interior Minister of Russia stated that six million Russian children were living in "socially unfavorable conditions". Last year CNN did a wonderful story on this and other issues that confront orphan children in Russia.

The little boy in this picture is an orphan and likely falls into the "six million" statistic. He lives in an orphanage near St. Petersburg. I visited his orphanage in the fall of 2005. The next two photos are in the same series. ...spence
